Certifications / Memberships

I started getting involved in handgun coaching back in the late 1980's. When I got back into the shooting sports, I decided to make sure that I had a strong theoretical background. Fortunately, in Canada and the USA, there are some good programs available. As such, I have the opportunity to make the best use of both systems. Please note: I focus on ISSF pistol coaching ("olympic" style) and not action shooting.

The Coaching Association of Canada runs courses for coaching theory certification as part of the National Coaching Certification Program. The Shooting Federation of Canada (SFC) and it's provincial affiliates deliver technical coaching courses for rifle, handgun and shotgun throughout Canada.

In the United States, I would recommend the NRA's Education and Training Division for coaching and firearm instructor courses. USA Shooting runs coaching courses in conjunction with the NRA.

My current certifications are as follows:

  • ISSF "C" License Pistol Coach
  • NRA / USA Shooting Certified Advanced International Pistol Coach
  • NRA / USA Shooting National Coach Development School (NCDS) Staff
  • NRA Certified Home Firearm Safety
  • NRA Certified Pistol Instructor
  • NRA Certified Range Safety Officer
  • SFC / NCCP Certified Pistol Coach (Level 3)
  • Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) Range Official Bullseye/Pistol
  • Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA) Handgun Safety Instructor
  • Canadian Red Cross Sport First Aid Course (inc. Standard First Aid and CPR)

My current memberships include:

  • Canadian Shooting Sports Association (CSSA)
  • National Rifle Association (NRA)
  • USA Shooting

You owe it to yourself and your sport to become involved. Join your national and provincial/state shooting sport governing body. Learn as much as you can and pass it along to someone else. Its a win-win relationship for everyone.
