Swiss Open - 2002 |
Between May 5th and May 12, 2002, I represented Canada at the 2002 Swiss Open in Pfäffikon, Switzerland (southern tip of Lake Zurich), as a member of the Canadian National Disabled Shooting Team. This was my first European match (and first trip to Europe) and the first time shooting on electronic targets. The match was sanctioned by the ISCD and qualified competitors could obtain MQS scores for participation at the 2004 Paralympics in Athens, Greece.
Fortunately, I was mentored (babysat? *s*) by Karen Van Nest (also from Canada) and stayed in a little town called Rapperswill with the Finnish shooting team. The Finns' hospitality and friendship was greatly welcomed. Thanks to Seppo Jolkkonen, Mervi Rajamäki and especially my roommate, Jarkko Suominen (we both snore somewhat loudly - unfortunately, not at the same time.)
Here are some pictures that I took in Switzerland. I hope that they can give you a feel for what an international match is like.
