Hi Demian.
Well, firearms have been and are being stored safely in the home with children present. The onus is on you, the firearm owner, to ensure that you follow the storage laws and act responsibly.
First, get a gun safe. Make sure that the kids don't know the combo or where the key is.
Second, place trigger locks on all your guns. Again, make sure the kids don't know the combo or where the key is.
Third, store your ammunition in a seperate locked container. Once again, make sure the kids don't know the combo or where the key is.
Fourth and most importantly, teach your kids about firearms, so they respect them. Demystify your guns by allowing them to be used under your direct supervision. Teach them that shooting is about self-discipline and effort, not power.
I think that if you follow these four suggestions, you won't have any worries about keeping your kids safe.
